3 posts in 3 days? Yep, it's true! This must be a record breaker!
Okay, so I have some pretty big news. And when I say big, I mean BIG. Here it is:
I. Cook. Now.
Have I just blown your mind with this crazy news? Is your head reeling with amazement?
(ahem, sarcasm)
It's true, dear friends -- I am becoming a domestic!! Ever since we moved into our new apartment, Brooks and I have made huge efforts in making it feel comfortable and homey. For example, the decorations (which took 8 months to put up in our little rabbit hole apartment) are up, and they look pretty great if I do say so myself. Here is the wall that I am most proud of.
Hey there, bum!
Along with the decorating has come the need to keep things clean and in order. This means that the laundry is always being done, the dishes are not being left for days and days in the sink, and the house is not gross. You could call it nesting, but I call it a new and permanent stage of life that I never want to let go of. I love it! I know that things will get crazy when the little lady comes, but I think it's important to instill these "house of order" habits now instead of later.
Brooks is still cooking amazing dishes that make my heart sing (like last night's, oh boy!!) but I have tried my hand at a few things that I thought I'd share. Some turned out great, and some were 'pretty okay', but it's all a apart of the experience, right?

Broccoli Cheese Soup. Okay, so this was my first creation, but it was not from scratch. We bought those little soup packets from Wal-Mart for only 50 cents, then I added half a bag of frozen broccoli to the mix, and it tasted delicious. We ate it with some Texas Toast (aka yummy garlic bread) and had some for leftovers.

Cool Stuffed Croissants: This is the perfect lunch sandwich! I substituted the original 'Pita' bread for croissants (not the healthiest choice, but in my defense, there was no pita bread at Allens AND croissants are way more delicious. So there.) and it turned out great. Brooks really loved them. If I did it again, I would definitely add some celery because I just needed a little more crunch. That's just me though. You can find the recipe HERE.

Crockpot Southwestern Chicken: This has definitely been my proudest dinner creation. It was so easy, because Crockpotting (cool word, yeah?) is so easy. It's all in the forethought. This was a taco salad-like dish, except with chicken yumminess instead of beef/hamburger. There were a lot of leftovers, so I think it would be good for a big sized family. It was deeeelicious! Recipe found HERE.

The main thing I have, in fact, made over the last year of marriage is breakfast food. I'm pretty proficient at waffles, french toast, etc. but I wanted to try my hand at crepes. I made them once when Brooks and I were dating, and they turned into half crepe/half pancakes...so I needed to redeem myself. Today I made some from THIS recipe, and they were were awesome and so, so super easy.

Fruit Pizza: Oh my lanta. This is the BEST dessert ever! I took it to a friend's "Come meet my boyfriend" party (okay, so that wasn't what the party was called, but it was most definitely the main point of the party...and don't worry, I totally approved of him). Everyone loved it, which made me want to cry out of happiness. I have never baked/cooked something from scratch, to then have 20+ people eat it. It was stressful! Thankfully, fruit pizza is always a winner. Huzzah!! Here's how mine turned out. I used raspberries instead of strawberries (because again, Allen's didn't have strawberries). YUM. Totally delectable. In my heaven, I will have this served on a daily basis. Come one, come all! Recipe HERE.
Well, that is all for now. Did I really just post about cooking and recipes?..weird. Oh well. Hope everyone is having a lovely Wednesday!
Jena Out.
